چکیده

The introduction and expansion of the Asian yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax) in Europe poses concern for multiple reasons, including biodiversity conservation. In addition to predation native insects (e.g., bees wasps), this species may compete with hornets due an overlap their climatic trophic niches. aim study is investigate realised niche V. v. nigrithorax its response conditions evaluate degree niches two Vespa present Europe, crabro orientalis. both partially invasive (Schoener’s D, 0.43 0.28 orientalis), although some differences can be detected. appears more adapted cold dry than species, orientalis arid climates. These provide a competitive advantage areas lower environmental suitability nigrithorax, probable event that continues spread, reaching all predicted suitable Mediterranean basin.

Production of Early Diploid Males by European Colonies of the Invasive Hornet Vespa velutina nigrithorax

The invasive yellow-legged hornet Vespa velutina nigrithorax was accidentally introduced in Europe in the early 2000s. As is the case in colonies of other wasp and hornet species, V. velutina colonies are known to produce sexuals (males and new queens) at the end of the summer. We show that early-stage colonies in French populations frequently produce males well before the usual reproductive pe...

Medical consequences of the Asian black hornet (Vespa velutina) invasion in Southwestern France.

The presence of the Asian black hornet Vespa velutina in Southwestern France has been confirmed since 2005. The medical literature indicates that in comparison with other Asian hornets' species V. velutina is not a major health threat in Asia. A review of data from French Poison Control Centers showed only one envenomation clearly linked to V. velutina. The victim developed severe symptoms with...

Vespa crabro immunotherapy versus Vespula-venom immunotherapy in Vespa crabro allergy: a comparison study in field re-stings

Background In ascertained allergic sensitization to Vespa crabro (VC) venom, the European guidelines still consider venom immunotherapy (VIT) with Vespula (VE) venom sufficient to achieve an adequate protection against VC. However, antigen 5 immunoblotting studies showed that a genuine sensitization to VC venom may exist. In such cases, a specific VC venom would be preferable for VIT treatment....

Olfactory Attraction of the Hornet Vespa velutina to Honeybee Colony Odors and Pheromones

Since the beginning of the last century, the number of biological invasions has continuously increased worldwide. Due to their environmental and economical consequences, invasive species are now a major concern. Social wasps are particularly efficient invaders because of their distinctive biology and behavior. Among them, the yellow-legged hornet, Vespa velutina, is a keen hunter of domestic ho...
